This is a nice way to try out shojin ryori, traditional vegetarian Buddhist meals. You are served in a very spacious and serene traditional Japanese room in the temple.

Set vegan meals for ¥3,000, ¥5,000 and ¥7,000. The second two need to be booked at least one day in advance by calling ahead in Japanese (if you can't speak Japanese get your hotel to do it ^_^)

Amazing meal for vegans visiting the bamboo grove. Simple Buddhist food, artfully prepared. Had no problem eating without a reservation at 11am when they opened. 3000 yen meal was plenty of food.
